Traveling and You Lost Your Passport? Step one: Don’t Panic.
The last thing any of us wants whether prepping to leave for travel plans or already abroad is to lose our passport. The first natural thing to do is to start panicking and tearing apart belongings to locate that crucial piece of identification needed for travel.
If you are still in the U.S. and have lost your passport, the first thing to do is call a passport agency. From there they can help direct you to what your options are. One option if you have the time is available, make an appointment at a passport agency. Or you could choose to utilize expedited passport services. Furthermore, gather up all the necessary documentation you need for your passport. This includes passport photo, proof of citizenship, identification, proof of flight that day, a DS-64, and a DS-11.
What about if you are already abroad. Once again, stay calm. Recheck everything one last time and then reach out to your nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Bring all of the pertinent documentation. You should always carry a copy of your passport information page when traveling abroad. You will need to obtain your passport before being able to return to the U.S.
The biggest takeaway is to not panic. While it can be stressful if you are in a time crunch, there are still options on obtaining a replacement passport.
