5 Tips for Planning Summer Travel

Summer is Coming!

As summer approaches, here are a few tips to keep in mind as you plan for summer vacations and travel.

Tips for Planning Summer Travel

Book Early

The best airfare can be found at least 3-4 weeks prior to your preferred travel date. Start looking early to track rates. Some travel sites let you set fare alerts which will notify you when rates drop. If the price drops or is in line with your budget, book it before it’s too late!

Avoid Peak Travel Dates

If your schedule allows, try to avoid the main holiday travel dates. Not only will the “off-peak” dates be more economical, but the airport will be less crowded also. If you are trying to get away over a weekend, consider traveling on a Thursday and returning on a Monday. Avoiding traveling on weekend days can be a cost saver.

Check Alternative Airports

Flying out of your home airport may be the most convenient but it’s not always the most economical option. If you live in a location where there is a secondary airport within a reasonable distance to get to, the cheaper fares might be worth the longer drive. Alternatively, if you are flying into a location where there are several airport options, check them all to ensure you are getting the best fare.

Choose Less Popular Destinations

Keeping your vacation within budget can be a challenge if you’re trying to visit a high demand tourist destination. Instead, consider locations that are off the beaten path. Availability, crowd size, and pricing will all be more rewarding.

Be Flexible

The key to making your summer travel planning a success is flexibility! Giving yourself a little wiggle room while planning can result in huge savings.

Keep these tips in mind while planning and you will have a more enjoyable time while you travel.
