Historic Downtown

The heart of “old Yuma” has always been Main Street. Gold seekers from California followed this path in 1849. There was a time when this historic part of Yuma would be faced with destructive floods of the Colorado River. Today, the historic downtown of Yuma offers a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Yuma Territorial Prison State Park

Once a prison that opening in 1876 to later shut down in 1909. It is now operated as a historical museum. The prison was strategically built on the banks of the Colorado River as a measure against jailbreaks at the time.

Gateway Park

The best spot to observe the Ocean to Ocean Bridge that was designed to facilitate the Ocean to Ocean Highway. It is a perfect spot for families to enjoy playgrounds and a little beach next to the waters of the Colorado River.

Colorado River State Historic Park

Once serving as the old U.S. Army Quartermaster Depot, as well as, the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area. This park has a great deal of history and fun exhibits for youth. You will find some of Arizona’s oldest buildings here.

Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area

These sand dunes hold the title as the countries largest area of inland dunes. They stretch over 40 miles. The dunes can be enjoyed by all with certain times of the year being for only off-road vehicles. Fun fact: the dunes have served as film set for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Yuma River Tubing

A splendid thing to enjoy in the summer months of Arizona is Yuma River Tubing. An alternative way to experience the Colorado River. The overall trip on the river takes about an hour.
