How Hurricane Lane May Affect Your Travel Plans

Hurricane Lane

Hurricane Lane is a Category 4 hurricane moving northwestward toward Hawaii. Currently, Lane is just over 200 miles south of the Big Island. Torrential rain is hitting eastern portions of Hawaii which could continue through the weekend. Flash floods, mudslides, and battering waves causing coastal flooding are likely.

Hurricane warnings have been issued for the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu, including Honolulu. A hurricane watch is currently in effect for Kauai County.

What to Know if You’re Traveling

Airlines have issued travel alerts as well as travel waivers for change fees due to the severe weather.

Travelers can make changes to some itineraries without paying the change fee and/or fare difference.

Details vary by carrier however customers are generally allowed to make changes without penalty. Eligible travelers should check with their carrier to learn more about flight changes. Some changes will need to be made within a particular timeframe.
